"And then she turned around and promptly passed out, in case you all were wondering.

In hindsight it may, in fact, have been too many Brainsates.

Time dilation in the mind swings both ways. An hour's nap can feel like days worth of dreaming, or a half-hour unconscious can feel like months. A moment to laugh off if you're outside it, and absolute torture if you're not.

I'm sure you've started to figure that part out by now, though.

...She should only be out about half an hour.

Right? At most?

I'm not well-versed in drug-induced unconsciousnesses, personally.

. . .

She'll be fine. Just poor constitution combined with a long, stressful day.

. . .

...Not really fair, though. Is it?

She's being punished for something she wasn't prepared for, something she wasn't conditioned to predict OR experienced enough to circumvent.

We're being punished for it.

What's the point of all these rules if they fail to keep the game balanced? Why bother to restrain ourselves when the deck is clearly stacked?

I can't actually tell if you can hear me or not so I'm just going to keep talking.

I propose we play our own game, Choir.

You can jump bodies, right? You've had other drivers, so to speak.

I believe it's within my power to tether you. You jump to another mind, get a feel for things, and then I can bring you back to Plaire. In and out, say, thirty minutes or less?

You'll be back before she even wakes up."

2) Let's go to Franklin.

Let's hop over to Kate or Marlow. I feel like they're the ones most used to weird brain stuff, so they may work well with us.

Otherwise? Plaire has been through a lot, and hasn't had much time to relax given us piloting her around at the speed of a nervous breakdown. Maybe we can ask them about giving her a mandatory day off from the crazy?

We *did* also overwhelm her with good vibes earlier, the girl needs to take a step back.

Welcome Back Morgenstern!

I would also like to know who - or what - we're dealing with. The Choir is always hungry for context.

Is there a price attached to this tethering? Do we choose the other recipient? Are there stakes to this game - and if so, what?

And if we do choose, and everything seems relatively Kosher, +1 to Kate (if she's cool with it)

+1 to everyone in the choir not being weird about Kate and Plaire while we're talking to Kate too

Assuming we have any choice in the matter of whom with which we interface:

1. Vainglory. We've been with her before, apparently, lets do it again. She maybe kinda hates us, but that's not a complete dealbreaker.

2. If we don't have to know their like, exact location or identity... How about whoever we've been swappong notes with in the Alcazar? Or anyone with them.

3. If anyone in the Alcazar is off limits because of noosphere buisness.... Lets get Dr. Finch or Fuse Hendricks. Pull them into our sphere of nonsense.

Of course, if we dont get to choose, I'm up for going along with the ride. Also cool with people we actually know well, just trying to reach outside the box a bit given the opportunity.

As an alternative to my other suggestion, maybe we could jump into Mayor Parsons' mind? If this is all about bending the rules to balance out the game a bit, it could prove to be quite an advantage because she's a major player and we still know next to nothing about her at this point.

I was thinking something similar! But instead of jumping to the mayor, jump to the secretary. Should give us good context while not handing over clues to the mayor.
18th Jul 2022, 10:51 AM
I think the mayor would be the best choice for a pizza delivery timeframe ("30 minutes or less", haha), since there's a lot we can learn and potentially do if we're in her head.

-We can learn about her past, her plans, her motivations, her hopes, her dreams, etc. etc. No more having to dither about "Is she good or evil? Can we trust her?"
-We can either have her, or have her order Temperance, go to the jail and spring Franklin.
-We can have her review the deed to Plaire's house and memorize it to pass along to Plaire the relevant details later. Maybe even pop on by her house and shove it through the mail slot if there's enough time. (Does Plaire have a mail slot? No, I don't think so, since she has a mailbox).
-If she's evil, we can go online, log into her bank, and transfer all of her money over to Plaire, hahahaha.
-We can plant the idea in her head that she should smooch cooperate with Plaire, if she's good/neutral.

Wait crap what if it's Mayor Parsons *talking* right now?! This *could* be how she talks, looking at other dialogue

19th Jul 2022, 11:21 AM
+1 to tether to Parsons. She seems to know a bit about all the magic stuff already, so she might be a little less hostile if she knows that a choir is involved. And if she’s more hostile, then we turn that against us instead of putting more on Plaire’s plate.
Plus, it was getting pretty late when we arrived at the library, let alone now after all this stuff has happened. Parsons and her Secretary might be the only ones doing anything interesting at this hour.

-1 on giving nudges to Parsons, at least at first. If she does know about Choirs then she’ll probably notice, especially after we’ve left. And being all ‘hugs and rainbows, make friends with our friends!’ immediately out the gate has already made Vainglory pissed at us. We should at least evaluate the situation and Parson’s reactions before making a move.

Do you have an entity in mind, ghost in the demonshell? I'm sure you do.
...well... My suggestion would be Kate, if you're taking suggestions; we've known her among the longest of the people here, she has experience with almost everything we'll be talking about, and she's positioned to 'pick up where we left off', so to speak.
...and we could help her keep an eye on Plaire for 'thirty minutes or less'.
For what it's worth, I appreciate the opportunity, even if I question your motivations. I'm half convinced we're about to wind up in your mind, against our will.
I wouldn't recommend it, ir that's something you're planning.
18th Jul 2022, 11:07 AM
I definitely agree with everyone else insisting that we know who our new friend is here, and what their motivations are.

Also, despite the obvious benefits that hopping into Parsons or someone else, I'm going to suggest we reject the offer, at least until and unless we run the idea by Plaire and see what she thinks. We owe it to her to at least get her opinion on whether or not we want to Choir it up in someone else's skull, even on a temporary basis. Plus, this is LITERALLY the first half of that Rick and Morty meme, the one that ends with them screaming in agony, so even if our new friend has nothing but good intentions, I doubt it'll be a simple thirty minute jaunt.

Okay strange entity. You want to tether us to even the playing field? Fine.

I will provide you info. You may ask yourself, "Why did we latch onto Plaire?"

Well, it turns out secret signs hints that she's the sleeping God of Antagonism. The more difficult things get for her, the more powerful she becomes. She just hasn't realized it yet. Look at her, she starts off a broken person from a home. Most people in her situation would fail. She, instead, succeeded, and literally bought a house in *this economy* with almost no funds. That alone is the hints of god-tier power right there. Her foray into the Alkazar is our attempt to get her to awaken. With almost no effort, her power is growing by leaps and bounds the more dangers that are thrown at her. Our previous host was powerful, yes, but they were not powerful enough, and the tether snapped. Plaire is the unbeatable god, for the more one attempts to beat her, the more powerful she becomes.

Her awakening is not a matter of "if" but "when", and no god will be able to oppose her for any attempt will just make her that much greater.

She is unstoppable. I would call her a force of nature, but she is not as simple-minded as a hurricane or earthquake. She is beyond a force of nature. She will be a god among gods. And we will be her vizier.

So why do I bother tell you this? Because if you intend to oppose her, your attempts shall be laughable.

Let's tether to Lora. That would gain us a lot more information about Plaire's past that she hasn't really come to terms with yet, and in the event that something supernormal is actually happening to her we'll know for certain. She might be of a little less immediate help than someone like the Mayor, but she seems to have significantly less risk attatched.

As interesting as more backstory may be, it would probably have very little bearing on anything we're dealing with - and if there's bleed-through at all it would just be additional pain for Plaire. -1

Okay so what are our options for the Choir to jump into? We have the Mayor, her Secretary, Franklin, Maria, and... maybe even Vainglory, though she knows about the Choir so she might be able to resist but we might be able to get some new information?

I'm actually leaning towards Maria. We don't know much about her but we know there's something going on, more than meets the eye. She's smart and I think talking to her as the choir would be way more helpful than trying to get Plaire to talk to her. She also seems like she would be a good addition to the party in general. So ultimately my vote goes towards Maria.

Cool way of starting the story back up. Lots of strong candidates.

1) Try to talk w/ whomever this is. How easy is changing our focus?
2) If we are limited to the local group. Ideally, we cast out net wider.
----Kate is making an effort to be chillest about this stuff and is a bit jealous of others getting attention. And we can check on her intentions to our Plaire.
----Deedee has the least experience w/ our kind of crazy. We'll learn a little from being able to get in her head.
3) Help get stuff together for the big Franklin breakout.
----Our goal is to find out what Franklin knows and get that info to our Plaire. We can see what the inside of his holding area looks like for better planning. And he might have experience w/ us.
----Officer Johnson would be an unpleasant lift. But, he would have a great understanding of the jail and knows where a lot of bodies are buried in this town. Possibly literally.
4) The mayor / assistant risks leaking info to someone equipped to use it. I'm against this one.
5) Maria. I think she is the main character we've had least interaction with. This could pull her towards the foreground.
6) Lora. Plaire's ex. I've been wondering if staying in Addersfield was her preferred choice or if folks essentially held her in place and pushed that decision on her. Least likely to net us info, but would help Plaire know the score. I can see her eventually turning up in Ninelives and adding drama to new Plaire relationships. I also picture her as a boss monster and some insight will help us when that rolls around.

----
My votes in preferred order.
-Talk
-Johnson / Franklin
-Lora
-If we're stuck local -- Deedee

From the context, I speculate that you've got Bebe and Deedee confused.

I mean, Plaire's never met Deedee, and seeing as it's nighttime and she's not the girl on Animal Control duty, she's probably asleep.

Although, if she smelled a rat and tailed us to the Library, that would be an interesting twist. Kind of lacking in foreshadowing, but interesting.
